Who Where When

How do I review and import an AI reply?

Updated October 23, 2026

Open Import, paste the AI's whole reply, and Who Where When shows you exactly what it would change, sorted into groups. Tick what you want, decide each conflict, and choose Import. Nothing changes until you do.

You need editor access to import. Viewers see a "View-only access" message.

Paste the reply

Paste the whole reply into the box, including the ```json block and any text around it. Pasting into an empty box starts the review right away. Otherwise, choose Review changes. If the AI gave you a file, choose Open a .json file.

The review groups

Each item shows its quote from the text where the AI gave one. Use All and None to tick or untick a whole group.

Names are matched against your entries and their aliases, so "the Grey Lady" is matched to Mara Thorne rather than added as someone new.

Deciding conflicts

Each conflict has three choices:

  • Keep the bible's value. Skip the new fact.
  • Replace with the new value. Swap in the AI's version.
  • Keep both (flag it). Save both, and let the continuity check flag it so you can look later.

If the AI is right because something changed in the story, keep both and give each fact its own date range afterward.

Import

The bar at the bottom counts how many changes will be saved. Choose Import to save them, or Back to start over. Imported facts are marked with a robot icon as coming from AI.

When the reply isn't right

  • The AI stopped partway. A warning says it ran out of room. Import what's there, then choose Copy “continue” message and send it to the AI for the rest.
  • The reply can't be read. Choose Copy a “please fix it” message for the AI, send it, and paste the new reply.
  • It was a continuity audit. Import shows the AI's findings as a list instead of changes. They're suggestions: fix them in your text or bible.
  • It's a full backup. Import offers Restore backup instead. Only the owner can restore, and it replaces the whole universe.

Common questions

Will an import overwrite what's already in my bible?

Only if you choose Replace with the new value on a conflict. By default, conflicts keep the bible's value, and nothing is saved until you choose Import.

Can I undo an import?

Yes. The whole import is one entry in History. Choose Undo on it, and anything nobody has edited since is reversed.

Keep your story straight

Who Where When keeps every character, place and date in your books, and tells you when the story contradicts itself.
