How do I connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI? PRO
Who Where When is an MCP server, the standard way AI apps connect to outside tools. Once your AI is connected, you can skip the copy and paste and just ask: "Read chapter 12 and update my bible." It reads your bible, does the work, and saves what it finds. Facts that conflict with your bible are reported back to you, never saved over it.
The connector URL is https://whowherewhen.app/mcp. You can also copy it from Settings → Connect AI in any universe.
Which AI apps work
Any AI app that lets you add a custom remote MCP server with sign-in can connect. Each app decides who gets the feature, and those rules change often, so check your app's own help if the option isn't there.
| App | Where to add it | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector | Reads and writes. |
| ChatGPT | Settings → Apps (turn on Developer Mode if asked) | Some plans only allow read-only custom connectors, so it may look things up but not save changes. |
| Gemini | Connected Apps at gemini.google.com | Personal Google accounts, in the US, in English, with Keep Activity on. |
| Grok | grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom | Availability depends on your plan. |
| Mistral Le Chat | Connectors → Custom MCP Connector | Available on Free, Pro and Student. |
Connect it
The steps are the same in every app:
- Open your AI app's connector settings (see the table above) and add a custom connector.
- Paste
https://whowherewhen.app/mcp. If the app asks how to sign in, choose OAuth. - Your AI opens a Who Where When page asking whether to allow it to use your story bible. Sign in if asked.
- Check what it may do. Untick Add and update entities, facts, events and relationships if you want a read-only connection.
- Choose Allow.
If your app connects but can't save anything, it's likely limited to read-only connectors on your plan. The prompts and Import work with every AI instead.
What your AI can do
- List your universes and read a whole bible
- Look up one entry, with its facts, sources and relationships
- Search notes and chapter text
- Read a stored chapter
- Run the continuity check
- Add entries, facts, events and relationships, one at a time or in bulk
- Correct or delete a specific item you point it to
Try prompts like:
- "List my universes, then read chapter 3 of The Ashen Crown and add anything new to my bible."
- "What does my bible say about Kael Varn's eyes, and which chapters say it?"
- "Run the continuity check and explain the top three issues."
What your AI can access
It acts as you, with your access. It can change universes where you're the owner or an editor, and only read those where you're a viewer. It can read chapter text you've stored in Who Where When, so anything it reads goes to that AI company under your account's terms with them.
Disconnect
Open Settings → Connect AI. Under Connected apps you'll see each app, when it was connected, and whether it can Read and change or is Read only. Choose Disconnect to sign it out immediately. To change what it may do, disconnect and connect again.
Prefer to stay in control of each reply? The prompts and Import work with any AI and let you review every change first.
Common questions
What is the connector URL?
https://whowherewhen.app/mcp. Add it as a custom connector (sometimes called a custom app or MCP server) in your AI app.
Which AI apps can connect?
Any app that supports custom remote MCP servers with sign-in. Today that includes Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Mistral Le Chat, though some only offer it on certain plans or regions.
Can my AI overwrite facts in my bible?
When it adds what it has read, facts that conflict with your bible are reported back to you instead of saved. It can also correct or delete specific items when you ask, and every change is in History.
Is connecting an AI a Pro feature?
Yes, connecting an AI directly is part of Who Where When Pro. The copy-and-paste prompts and the Import page work on every plan.
Can I connect it read-only?
Yes. On the Allow page, untick the option to add and update entries before choosing Allow.
Keep your story straight
