How do History and undo work?
History is a record of every change to a universe: who made it, when, and where it came from. Editors and the owner can Undo any entry in it. Undo is careful: it only reverses what's still exactly as that change left it, so a co-author's later edits are never overwritten.
What History records
Open History at the bottom of the sidebar. Each entry shows a summary, who made it, and when. Expand an entry to see each item it changed, with what changed.
Every change carries a source:
| Source | Means |
|---|---|
| In the app | Someone edited it directly |
| AI import | Saved from Import |
| AI connector | Made by Claude, ChatGPT or another AI through the connector |
| Manuscript upload | Chapters added from an upload |
| Undo | An undo of an earlier change |
| Backup restore | A backup replaced the universe |
| Settings | Calendar, publishing, members and similar |
A save or an import is one entry, however many items it touches. Quick edits in a row to the same entry by the same person are merged into one. Membership and publishing changes are logged too.
Filter and export
- Use Everyone to pick one person, and All sources to pick one source, such as "AI connector".
- An entry's page shows its own Recent changes.
- Export CSV downloads the log as a spreadsheet with time, person, source, action, item and detail.
Undo a change
- Find the entry in History (or in Recent changes on an entry's page).
- Choose Undo.
- Confirm.
What happens next:
- Items nobody has touched since are put back the way they were.
- Items that have been edited again since are left as they are. A message tells you how many were skipped.
- If everything has changed since, nothing is undone.
- Undo won't delete an entry that others have since attached facts to.
The undo itself is a new entry in History, and the original is shown struck through and marked "undone".
What can't be undone
- A backup restore. Restore an earlier backup instead.
- Deleting a universe. Download a backup first from Settings → Export & backup.
- Chapter text. History notes the change and word count, but doesn't keep old text.
History is kept for two years, up to 50,000 entries.
Common questions
How far back does History go?
Two years, up to 50,000 entries. Older entries are removed automatically.
Can I undo restoring a backup?
No. A backup restore replaces the whole universe and can't be undone. Restore an earlier backup instead.
Does History keep old versions of my chapters?
No. History records that chapter text changed and its word count, but not the text itself. Keep your drafts in your writing app.
Keep your story straight
